I have an old BHP that I guess was an import. It apparently was property of the Buenos Ares PD for many years and has the 1911 type extractor. It seemed to work fine until I replaced the springs with a set from Cylinder and Slide to lighten the trigger pull. I think this is just a coincidence though, maybe not more on this later... Here is the malfunction. If I fire the pistol and follow through (by holding the trigger to the rear of its travel) as the slide cycles, the trigger will not "reset." I would have to put my finger behind the trigger, push it towards the muzzle, then I hear/feel a click and I can pull the trigger and the hammer will fall. Otherwise, it would not fall, you just feel spring tension as you pull it. I know that the problem is with the sear lever. As an experiment, I can dry fire it, rack the slide manually while holding the trigger back, and then shake the pistol and the sear lever will rotate into position and a pull will release the sear, hammer falls. The reason I think the C&S kit may be the culprit is that it included removing the magazine safety. I don't know if it applied any pressure to the sear lever or not though, and I took the parts out some time ago. Unfortunately, I did not go right out and test THEN. I have gone to the Numrich website and reviewed the schematic for the BHP there, but I think it's for the later models. The sear pin is attached to a "plug" in the side of the slide. I think what would make it work is if the sear lever HAD a sear lever spring. BUT there is no place to install the spring in the slide. And the sear lever shown in the schematic has a different end. At the very bottom of the parts list, they list a non illustrated type 1 sear lever and sear lever pivot, this is probably what I have. I think that if I reinstalled the mag safety again, it would have enough force to push the trigger forward to recatch the sear lever. Like I have to do manually now. Any help would be appreciated, I'm sure I'm not too far from a call to C&S... |
