| what is the file I need, a stock number or such from a website would be great, to file the 30 degree angle on a 1911 extractor. Not the lip but the area between the two lips. |

A good Swiss Jewelers needle file, or a higher-quality American version. You want a smaller file with a fine cut. Brownell's sell Narrow, Extra-narrow, and Very Extra-narrow Pillar files in fine Swiss cuts. The extra-narrow is 9/32" wide by 9/64" thick. 360-312-151 #2 cut. 360-312-161 #4 cut. The Very Extra-narrow is 5/32" wide by 3/64 thick with a slight taper. 360-312-041 #2 cut. I'd go with a fine #2 to #4 smooth cut. www.brownells.com |

John, I have the angle on the lip cut, and it actually looks like the picture on the brownells how-to section. I started the other cut with some tiny hobby files I got at home depot but I'm not getting a clean consistent cut. it's not bad enough to scrape the whole extractor though. by the way my VZ grips came in and they make the gun look pimp. stumbled into a homocide the other day too. go read my thread on the brothers of the shield forum in General. you'll get a kick out of it. |
