I just spray painted my slide with a flat black rustolium. This is just temporary, I will eventually put the proper finish on the pistol when I complete the project. I did some hand filing (just for cosmetics) on the back of the ejector, so that it did not stick out so far. I also touched up some tooling marks on the slide. The later could have been left alone I guess, because the finish that I will end up with will be thick rust resistant finish of some kind, like a T finish. I do not see how the spray paint will hurt anything, I did it mainly to help prevent rusting on the bare metal. Is spray paint OK for a temporary fix? |
| I'm not sure what some of the other "experts" would have to say on the subject but I have done the same thing in the past to protect the bare metal from the elements until I could get the proper finish I wanted on the gun. The paint strips off easily and the gunsmith or whoever is refinishing the weapon for you can get the job done a little quicker. Good luck |

Well I think I put it on to thick. That is OK, I soaked it in gas and got all of the paint off. Monday I am going to have the slide, barrel and frame blasted. Now all I have to do is find out what spry/bake on finish I wont to go with. If any one has used a product like this let me know what it was and how you liked the results. This is going to be a truck gun so it does not need to be beautiful, but I would like a finish that I do not have to touch up all the time. Thanks! |
