Can anyone give me some advice on where to get and what to get on the topic of a good beginning 1911 gunsmithing video and/or book to get some ideas and learn new skills on working on/building a custom 1911. I recently bought a Wilson Combat video and got burned. I didnt want to watch a 2 hour advertisement. I have seen ads for the AGI tech and armorer's manuals...are they any good? I would like to buy a stock gun and make a good custom. Thanks, Dan |

Dan, I recently bought Wilson's full set of 4 DVD's for Combat Customizing the 1911. I've watched it a few times and now it's time to sell it. I hadn't planned on doing any of the work myself, I just wanted to get an idea of what went on when I did have it done to my 1911. I've listed them on Gunbroker.com if you're interested? Big Al |

The best book going is by Jeerry Kuhnhausen, and it's so well illustrated, it's better than most videos. It's called THE COLT .45 AUTOMATIC, A SHOP MANUAL. There is a second volume once you've mastered the basics that is well worth the money, particularly for barrel fitting. Here's a link to Brownells. I got mine at a gun show many years ago though. www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=13805&title=Jerry+Kuhnhausen+SHOP+MANUALS |
| If you dont want to spend all the money on buying the videos I use TechnicalDVD. The website has 8 dvds on the 911 that you can rent. If you are like me and have a dvd burner then you are all set. |
