I have a 1911 A1 receiver from RIA I'm building with the copes kit... everything tuned and perfect with one exception...l If I install the mainspring and sear and disconnect i can not install the ambi safety if I don't install the sear and disconnect and main spring every thing cycles fine... In thinking its the main spring I see the three fingers might be a little off and causing the disconnector and plunger to bind so it does not allow enough room for the safety to fit properly... My question is how should the dissconector and plunger fit be with the main spring... I assuming the main spring finger on the left looking in at the back of the gun should only touch the disconnector flat pad which in turn is touching the trigger bow and the center finger of the mainspring should only touch the beveled edge of the plunger.... I really don't know what the right finger should touch or what it does.... Im think the main is out of spec since I had to trim down the bent tab which engages the slot pointing towards the mag since it was to long and causing the mag to get locked I'm place when the spring was installed.... Causing tension on the back of the mag not letting it fall out when the mag release is depressed......any ideas or comments would be appreciated..... This is my first full build before this I just purchased a 1911 and upgraded all the parts to my liking sooooo this is my first and only problem on this build......Im not a newbie to building I have 15 -Ar, 20 Ak,s and 2 Galilis and 4 Glocks under my belt but it is my first full 1911 build from scratch... If anyone knows how I can test the sear and disconnector out of the gun let me know other than that i don't know how to best test the safety of the gun

Well figured it out and it was an out of spec main spring fixed it but lead to a much smaller problem...The back safety does not work propely once the main spring block, or as some call it the hammer spring Bloch is installed,,, when not installed the plan or back safety springs back into position on it's own but whir installed it stay put where you press ir, it will come back if you manually move it into the safe position but not on it's own,,, any ideas...

Ok then I start simply... My trigger pressed and slide pulled back and trigger let go fires fine.... But trigger held back and slide pulled back and hammer will follow the slide.. I think in the 1911 world you call it hammer follow.... what should I look for.. I can cycle the gun normally if I do it by releasing the trigger as I shoot but in building AK,s and Ar,s this is a sign of full auto.... Not safe in this case....I have also adjusted the trigger travel so it just fires when pulled back... My trigger did not come with a set screw so I went out and purchased one and set pre travel and loc tite.... Now what.....Still have hammer follow. Problems I did take care of are Hammer not locking in two positions... done... Rear safety works not with the replacement of the main spring...done. Mag to low installed a EGW

Hammer follow is typically caused by the disconnector not disconnecting.  The way it's supposed to work is your trigger bow presses on the disconector, which in turn presses on the sear, in order to release the hammer.  When the slide cycles, it pushes the disconnector downwards, thereby disengaging it from the trigger bow and sear.  This effectively negates the trigger from holding the sear in the released position, so that when the hammer is cocked by the slide, it will catch on the sear hook as it begins to follow the slide forward and remain in the cocked position.  If you hold the trigger to the rear and cycle the slide slowly, you should be able to hear, and possibly even feel, the disconnector as it disconnects from the sear, then when you let the slide forward, you should hear it spring back into firing position as you release the trigger.  If this does not happen, your disconnector is not functioning correctly.  This could be caused by the disconnector not being installed correctly, or one that is too short and not sufficiently protruding from the top of the frame enough to provide for sufficient downward travel to disengage from the sear.
Remove the mainspring housing and inspect the installation of the disconnector.  Looking into the frame from the rear it will be behind the sear spring(the flat spring with the three fingers)It should be under the center finger, but the bottom of it should be between the trigger bow and the sear.  If it is installed correctly, it is probably too short.

Right on the money.. Its an out of spec disconnector and also mis adjusted pre-travel screw. I had to replace it with a EGW long disconnector and re adjust my trigger screw and all is well... Now its a matter of test firing a lot of mags tru this thing to see how it behaves....

Thank you for your come back and the education it helped a lot. I purchased a Sarco kit and found out that the comfort of a low price does not equal the sting of a poor quality part.// I had to replace the disconnector and the sear and the sear spring to get this kit to function correctly..
Again thank you for the come back... Oh another lesson learned is get spare parts so you can test the parts you already have.... can't compare parts if you have nothing to compare to...

.My disconnector was short a whole ...15 and how I found out is by placing a piece of tape on the ball of the dissconnector and trying it to see if it worked..
Of coarse it will come off after a couple of slide actions but it gave me a hint of what was not happening. After I took out the disconnector and used my mic to  measure and confirm......

.In hind sight I should have taken apart my other purchased RIA 1911 and checked those parts but I really didn't want two guns not working so

Glad to be of assistance.  Now go out and throw some lead downrange to verify proper function.
