I started a thread a few months ago trying to find some info about a revolver my BIL has, but it fell into the archives...
Archived thread I've since brought the revolver home, with intentions of figuring this out. It is a model 342, titanium/scandium/uranium/unobtainium something or other, I really don't know, but, it is significantly lighter than my 442. My mother wants my 442 as a carry piece, and I think the 342 may serve as an excellent replacement for me My main concern, is if this thing is rated for +P .38 rounds or not. Yes, I'm sure +P out of this little thing will be a handful, but I would prefer it was rated for it.

You can call or check with S&W directly if it makes you feel better...they will gladly let you know their company stance on the matter, but yes, they are +P rated. Before mine was stolen I shot it a fair amount and fired around 100 or so rounds of the old 110gr +P+ Tresury load through it with no problems at all. Like all other alloy framed J frames, an extensive diet of the hot loads will wear it faster but the gun can handle them just fine.
Or you could send it to me for proper disposal |

Going on when those started to be manufactured, I would say it is +p rated.
I wish I could get my mom to carry my 442. It took close to a dozen conversations just to get her to carry pepper spray on her key chain (she didn't want to "permanenty injure" someone with it). |

I called S&W. This particular gun was manufactured in 2003, and, is indeed GTG with +P.
My mother and father both recently got their CCP. I took almost everything I had to let my mother try. During their course, she fired what I understand to be a Glock fotay, and an LCP. She cared for neither. I explained to her about the importance of knowing what to do and how to do it, in the event of a failure with a pistol. I also emphasized the benefit of a DAO revolver in the event of failure.... "Just hit it again!" Needless to say, I doubt my mother will ever do any additional training. She is up in years, and only wants a bit of self security. My arguments were more than enough to persuade her. That, and the fact I think she preferred the little J frame over the others she'd tried. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– I did buy this gun from my BIL. It was pretty much a trade on my part. I handed both to my mother and asked her, "Which one?" I was glad I ended up with the 342. I'm sure she's doubly glad she will never have to FIRE the 342 |
