Does anyone here have both, and is willing to measure how wide earch are?

I owned (past tense) a 3913.  I loved the gun, but I had to sell it.  The magazine release button extended so far past the fram, and was sooooo easy to bump, that I kept finding the magazine sticking 1/4" our of the magwell.

Combined with the magazine safety it meant 'gun no shoot'...

If you are considering one, don't.

Actually, yes, I did.  The ex-wife liked it.  And she kept it during the divorce.

Or even the just the 3913 would be cool.  I've got a 5903 & 5924 I could measure here.  I'm just curious if the difference is really significant or negligible.

There are non-lady smith 3913's too.

If some of you guys are afraid to own a pistol because it has the words "Lady Smith" on the side then I feel sorry for you. If I found one of the pre-lock Model 60 Lady Smith revolvers for a good price I would snag it, no problem.

TTT –– did anyone ever take the measurements?  I'm torn between a 3913 and a 6906 myself, would be curious to know the difference in width.  Thanks...

My wife had one. It was a 3914.

You've had a week to measure it.

That's odd. I carried one for years with narry a problem. I handed the pistol off to a relative some years ago and he carried it for years with narry a problem. Maybe your holster really sucked.

Measurements alone won't tell you the whole story. If something like say a Glock is too wide for your tastes, the 6906 is going to be too wide for you. The 3913 will carry nicely, however.

I have both and happily trust my life to either one every day. I strongly believe that the 3rd gen autos were some of the best autoloading pistols ever made and I have been carrying (and regularly shooting) a 6906/3913 for almost 10 years now. I have NEVER found a pistol that feels as good or points as naturally as a 6906 with a set of Hogue grips. They are safe, reliable, durable, light, accurate, and concealable - and for me, the perfect concealed carry piece.

The short version is that the slide and ambi-safety/decocker width are identical on both - they only real difference is the frame and grip width:

Slide - 7/8"
Safety - 1-3/8"
Grip - 1-1/16" vs. 1-5/16" (both with Hogue grips)
Frame Width  - 3/4" vs. 1" (measured forward of trigger)

These were all measured with a tape but they should be accurate to within 1/32". You lose about 1/4" in width moving to the 3913 which may not seem significant but it does make a big difference - especially for IWB carry. The biggest issue I have found is that you can't get an M-TAC for the older S&W models and I'm unimpressed with the construction on the Crossbreed Supertuck. I've made my own holsters in the past so it looks like I'll have to go that route again as I am intrigued by those designs. The good news is that there are plenty of other holsters available depending on your carry preference.

YMMV, different strokes, what works for me may not work for you, etc., etc....

Hit me up if you have any other questions - Good Luck!

Thanks for the numbers and the info.

FWIW, I pulled these pics off listings over at "the other" big gun auction site.

This is a 3953 (the DAO version of the 3913):

And this is a 6906:

Gives you a sense of the difference in width.  Decisions, decisions...

Me too, I never had a problem with the mag release.

As a matter of fact, I have not had any problems with it. No failures of any kind and it is one of the most accurate handguns I own. I don't carry it anymore but I'm hanging on to it. It's just too good of a gun to let go. That and the sentimental value, I qualified in my CCW class with it.

Does the ladysmith have an extended mag release or are you just messing with him?

I have to tell you I have two 3913s, one is a NL (non Ladysmith) and the other is a TSW and they are absolutely the best CC guns ever.. I carry 24/7 in all 50 states (I am a retired cop) and have owned (way to) many pistols of all kinds.

It is really hard to beat the 3rd generation Smith autoloaders.  They fill so many different purposes including CCW, home defense and competition. My annual qualification is 30 rounds at the 5, 7 and 15 yard line and with either of my 3913s I always nail 30 in the 10 ring.
The 3913NL has had a Performance Center trigger action job completed (I think is was $140?) and it is freaking unreal how smooth the DA pull is. It was measured by S&W at 6.5 and the SA at 4.
