LOOKING AT A SIGMA 9MM OR 40MM ANYBODY HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON EITHER ONE?

Junk, my mom has the .40. A buddy of mine had the 9mm. His extractor broke three times.

Not to mention the shitty trigger. I put a lighter striker spring on my moms and the trigger still sucks.

I bought a .40 looooooong before I could afford a better weapon. I can't stress this enough... do NOT buy one. Save your coins, and get something... ANYthing better.

Biggest POS I have every had to carry. My department actually issued these for a while. Talked the chief at the time into letting me carry my own personal gun. Stay clear of them!

The later ones seem to have a better rep for reliability, but still suffer sucky triggers.  for the $350 or so to get a sigma, I'd buy a used Glock in whatever caliber you can find.

+1.  The "F" series guns are junk.  From the "V" and "VE" forward, they function reliably and with fewer broken parts.  But their triggers still are awful.

Seriously, I wanna see a 40mm sigma.  What does it chamber, M203 grenades? What is the magazine capacity like?  What kind of sights does it have, and can anyone shoot it offhand?

i have the sigma 9ve.  never had a single issue....and it eats every type of ammo i feed it.  great grip, easy to shoot- even one handed.  extremely easy to field strip and clean.

the trigger does kinda suck.

I shot a circa 2002 model sigma in IDPA for a year.  It was an experiment I tried because the ergonomics were the best I'd every felt.  (It just works for me)
I never had any problems in probably 2500 rounds.
I eventually picked up a glock 34, as my skills came up, I was able to appreciate the short glock reset.

Either way, I found the Sigma to be a great value.  It was reliable for me, and as always, cheap.

I'd avoid them. Smith's 3rd Gen's are much better pistols.

Sigma trigger SUCKS! My father has one, I avoid shooting it. The gun itself isn't too bad (on the later versions), ergonomics and reliability are decent. But that god awful lawyer trigger!!! Get a Glock, S&W M&P, or a Springfield XD.

Only Good thing about the trigger is that you can chamber a round and be confident it won't go off accidentally.

You can get that kind of confidence from many of the DA guns I listed in my post. The Sigma's trigger is overly heavy and full of creep.

Summit Gun Broker has used Glock 17s for $375. This will probably be the route I will travel. Sigma's have a legendary reputation, exactly the opposite of Glock's legendary reputation. Not a good thing...

Exactly my point.

Other pistols and revolvers do they same job, I'm just saying that it's the only advantage of the trigger in my eyes.

I heard a smith and wesson rep mutter "piece of shit" under his breath during a presentation the other daytalking about the sigma line.

i like my glock better.  and the sigma might indeed be a  POS, but i cant fault a gun that goes bang every time i pull the trigger regardless of the ammo used.

I have a S&W Sigma .40VE and have not had a single issue.

The trigger does suck, but other than that it has been reliable.

I'd save up another hundred bucks or so and get a used M&P

A buddy bought one against my recommendation, bought it because it was cheap.    Other than the damn horrible ergonomics the damn thing works great.  Shoot it a bunch and hate the feel and trigger but it works and haven't seen a failure yet.

I had one, it had a couple of FTFs while I owned it but it made for a decent trainer.  If you can shoot good groups with that trigger, you can shoot good groups with about anything!

It works.  Feels like a cheap piece of crap though.  Save a little more for an M&P.  I have two.

Bought one for my wife...  300 out the door....

Trigger sucks so i followed the online tutorials about removing the bigger spring in the rear striker assembly.  Thousand times better!

IMO, decent gun for the price, and i really dig the ergo of the frame.

I put a 100rds through a 9mm sigma and my finger was about dead after that, whats it have a 15lb pull?  This one probably had a 1000rds through it too.  Id suggest a $240 Kel-Tec over a sigma

worst trigger ever is the 642....

Keltec sucks.  i would rather buy a knife than another keltec.  maybe i got a bad one.

The trigger DOES suck out of the box, but if you call LSG Manufacturing (S&W's US maintenance facility) they will give you instructions to send it to them at no cost, they can clean up the trigger for you, and send it back to your door, and all it will cost you is a trip to the nearest FedEx facility...

My SW40VE is one of my favorite handguns. Here are some reasons why:
1. Feels like the grip was custom made for me.
2. Accurate.
3. Extremely reliable.
4. Shoots lead bullet reloads (without having to buy an aftermarket barrel).
5. Uses stainless steel magazines (instead of plastic ones).
6. Great price.
7. Great warranty.

True, the trigger is not the best, but then I am used to shooting double action revolvers.

I have an old one and it has never had any issues. I own many guns and while yes the trigger does suck it will work every time. I can keep them in a 4" circle at 25 yrds when i really really try and squeeze the trigger. I think it's a great valuw and a good teaching tool. If you can shoot it well you will be able to ANY handgun well.

1. Feels like the grip was custom made for me.  Must agree that it is the best pointing handgun I have ever held.
2. Accurate. Mine isn't bad but in no way comes close to my 1911. Takes some getting used to.
3. Extremely reliable. It is until you replace the striker spring with a Wolff reduced power spring. It helps trigger pull but reliability suffers, at least in my case.
4. Shoots lead bullet reloads (without having to buy an aftermarket barrel). Haven't shot mine with lead but the rifling is definitely deep enough.
5. Uses stainless steel magazines (instead of plastic ones). A plus in my eyes and the 4 I have are reliable.
6. Great price. Better quality than others in the price range
7. Great warranty. Haven't had to use it yet.

I added some comments above in blue. Trigger pull is heavy but improvements can be made. Polishing helps some. Replacing springs helps also but is best done by a smith unless you are experienced at this and have a supply. Wolff reduced power (3 1/2#) striker springs may work for some but only worked for a while. I now have reliability problems and no it isn't the ammo. I will be getting a couple factory striker springs and reworking the factory spring unless I can find about a 4 lb. spring that is correct in diameter, coil diameter and long enough to rework.

If you can shoot it well you will be able to ANY handgun well.  Is why I bought one as my first hand gun. so far its been great.  I have been shooting with a dummy round in the mag somewhere to practice and see how much I flinch/move gun with the pull of triger.    Didnt take long to stop moving when I pull the trigger.    the dummy round was the key for me to master the trigger.  I take that back I have not mastered it yet....always room to improve.

But it's a double-action-only revolver, not a striker-fired pistol.  We have two 642s, and the triggers are actually quite smooth.  They're not at all like my friend's .40 Sigma, which feels like it has 40 grit sandpaper on the trigger engagement surfaces.  There is absolutely no excuse for a striker-fired pistol having such a rough trigger.

I fired one and the D/A trigger on any of my S&W revolvers are much better than the trigger on the Smegma
