I have a friend with a 1994 Sigma SW40F. What would be a fair price for it?
Also, he has a bunch of the 15rd pre ban mags, what do those go for these days? We are looking to sell them to the Ban states to help those guys out. Thanks.

Honeslty, the Sigmas are junk, good luck if you get more than $200 for it. If the magazines are only made for Sigmas, then they might not be worth much because like I said, the Sigmas were junk.

Best of luck to you though.

I had heard that the Sigma VE's were junk but, not that the early Sigma's were.
I would assume that the magazine is only for the Sigma, they were bought at the same time and are S&W.

I hear the Sigmas are junk all of the time. But I also hear that they go bang every time, they just have shitty triggers. I was just doing a trigger job on my CZ yesterday (will finish tonight hopefully) and it doesn't seem that difficult.

So what is the deal? Trigger really the only issue?

I've seen quite a few used Sigma F's at my local Gander Mountains over the years at what many would consider absurdly high prices.  If you have a Gander Mountain in your area, you may want to take it there and see what they will give you.  They typically pay a straight up percentage of blue book, so the better they rate the condition, the higher they will pay - helps to have the original box, manuals, and such.

As far as the mags go, the .40 mags came in 10, 14 and 15 round capacities and they can all be used in any Sigma 40 full size or compact.  Sigma .40 mags run about $30-35 new.  I bought a couple of "pre-bans" back in 96 for $50 each and then in 05 I found a pawn shop down south that was selling like new LE trade in 15 rounders for $12 a pop, so I bought a dozen.

Good luck. to your "friend".

For that price I would buy it.  S+w will take care of any problems they have even if they are second hand.  I had one of the older ones that had a frame issue and they put the new railed frame on it no questions asked and I bought the gun used.  I like the heavy trigger personally and I know a lot of people that love there sigma's I also know a few that don't like them.  That is how I got a good deal on all the ones I own.

Thanks for the info. I do actually have a friend as I am a Glock guy first and a Sig guy second. I popped a few rounds off this weekend with the Sigma and did not care for it myself. Good thing since I don't own one.

I'll let my buddy now about getting a quote from Gander Mountain, there is one about 15 minutes from us.

Maybe this will help out if you plan to sell it online.  Mark at Summit sells them in VG condition for $185 with one mag or $199 with 2 mags.  He's out of them right now, but he has more coming in.

Sigmas at Summit

I was issued one of them.  Since I was forced to carry it, it's all I shot for years, and once you get accustomed to the trigger, it was easy to shoot just as accurately as anything else.  But, now that they have been replaced and I shoot mostly Glocks, I pulled out a Sigma the other day and tried to figure out why I actually liked them back then.

Mark's price is right on for them.

As for the pre-ban mags, here in MA, which is obviously a ban state, used pre-bans are going for $25-$30 each at credible gunshops.  The idiots who are just out to screw people out of money are trying to sell them for $60-$80, but I think the same mags have been sitting there since September of 1994.

$200 is fair, ifs in good shape (if it comes with at least 2 high cap mags). Sigmas a great guns for the money. Mine was a trusty companion until I sold it to fund a 5906. Cant find a better gun for the money.

The sigmas in my opinon are not junk, they are a durable gun that has held up to many tests. If they were so much junk Smith and Wesson would have pulled them off the shelves a long time ago.
