Well, I don't know about reliable, but I do know they're a slow selling gun for most dealers. They have all the ergonomics (for me) of holding a 2x4 piece of wood in my hand.

If you're wanting a small .45acp semi for CCW, there's lots better options out there, IMO. I'm betting your dealer is giving you a good price on one? If not, he darn well should be, IMO. These guns normally list for $400-450 at the gun shows.

In 20 years of working gun shows, I never sold one of these despite having them displayed.

CS45 is my number on carry.  I like the weight, the size, and the reliabilty.  I looked for one for over three years.

FWIW:

First, ALL 3rd generation Smith & Wesson pistols have a history of unusually good reliability.  I have 6 of them and if memory is correct I've NEVER had one fail, and that's sorta surprising because my plinking ammo is the cheap Winchester White Box Value Pac from WalMart..  That ammo can be very good or not so good, depending on the batch.

Reliability is JOB 1 in a self defense firearm, and reliability in the 3rd gen Smiths is a given.

Don't know a thing about the CS45, but I do have a CS9 and it's my carry piece when I need a cc firearm larger than my Seecamp.  The CS9 is sweet and very accurate.. I think the overall size of the CS45 is larger than the CS9.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

P.S.  And I'm presently in the process of buying a used CS45...

FWIW:

I was so pleased with the performance of my CS9 that I recenty bought a CS45...

I'm not usually a big "45 cal" guy, as 9mm has been my favorite centerfire round, but I find the CS45, which is slightly larger overall as the CS9 is a very nice pistol.

Whether the 3rd Gen Smith line of pistols happens to be "popular", or the "darling of the gun mags" makes absolutely no difference to me, as I've been big fan of these pistols since I bought my first 3913 back in 1995.

Since my first 3gS I've had Sigs/Walthers/HK's/ ect., and none of them, overall, had all of the things I find attractive in the 3gS pistol.

I like TDA, some don't..  I like the "option" of an external, ambidextrous safety, and I like absolute reliability....   All of these things I find in the 3gS, and generally missing to one degree or another in other firearms.

Just personal choice, no offense to folks who might think otherwise.

Best Wishes,

Jesse
