I had an M&P 45 compact that caught my eye at the gunstore the other day. It felt about the right size and had an ambi-safety.  I've been carrying my 1911 and like the safety feature but I'm curious if anyone has any problems with it clicking on if your not riding it?  I shoot with my right thumb under the safety in my 45's and in the thumb groove on my glocks.  I put my thumb under the safety when gripping the gun and the safety was almost riding on my thumb, I'm interested in the gun but curious if I'll have problems accidently engaging the safety when shooting, has anyone else experienced this?

Well I had this 45 follow me home today, I looked it over really well and it doesn't appear the safety should be an issue.  On a side note I didn't see this cataloged in Smith's website?  It's a 45 w/9 round mag and I'd say it's about the same size as a Glock 19.  It's definately not a full size grip, it comes with a flush mag bottom and an extended one which just allows you to get your pinky comfortably on.  It doesn't specify any model number on the gun or anything either?  It appears to have the same 4" barrel as the full size too is this some unlisted midsize?  I'm new to the M&P's.

The M&P 45 is available in three sizes.

Full Size - Full size frame, 4.5 inch barrel
Mid Size - Full Size frame, 4 inch barrel
Compact - Compact frame, 4 inch barrel

There are a multitude of variations, with and without thumb safety, lock or no lock, etc. But all are on these three basic sizes.

It comes with an 8 rd magazine but you can use full size 10 rd mags in it if you need more capacity.
