I was at my local range today, 2nd time I've fired my M&P9c. I tried to eject a live round that was in the chamber by pulling the slide back (as you would normally), however the round did not come out. I thought maybe there was something due to the magazine disconnect, so I put an empty magazine in and had the same problem. I managed to get the round out by firing it. I decided to test this several additional times by putting a single round in the magazine, chambering it, and then briskly pulling the slide back (as per the instructions). You really have to give it a good pull or the round gets jammed, it's as if the extractor only pulls it out part way and no amount of additional pulling on the slide will bring it out, you also can't release the slide as the round is actually not lined up with the barrel, it's jammed with the bullet to the edge of the barrel. Is this normal? I mean having to pull the slide back quite fast in order for it to eject, and for it to get stuck if you don't.. It took 2 people to get the jammed round out, one to hold the slide back (since it could not be pulled back far enough to lock open), and one to knock the round out. I'm hoping this is just because my gun is still fairly new. As a side note, apparently there was someone with a normal M&P9 (not compact) there 5 days ago with the exact same problem. It was his first time firing his. Does anyone have experience with this? |
| This is called 'live extraction / ejection' and it is not all that uncommon to see downsized versions of service pistols that have slight problems with it. Obviously your pistol will do it if you pull the slide 'smartly' to the rear, which is what you should do anyway. I have no experience with the compact MPs but the full size 9's I have dealt with (several dozen now) have all done it with zero problems using FMJ type ammo. |
