Are these available? If so, anyone have one? |
www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=14734&langId=-1&isFirearm=Y I did a search and found that you really like your SW99 45acp |
Yep, it's sitting in my bedroom as I write. I know I'm not the sharpest crayon in the box, but the only difference I see between the SW990L & my SW99 is the 990L is DAO, i.e. no decocker. Is this correct????? |
From what I have learned about this pistol, you are correct. I like the SW99 model better, this should have a trigger system like the AS model. I'm going to get one. The prices on these are not bad at all. |
I agree. It was the short stroke SA trigger that made the gun much more attractive to me when I bought it. Even more so when I shoot it. |
I think one (or both) of the following: 1) Agreement with S&W to not do a .45acp model due to S&W owning Walther? 2) Walther doesn't do a .45 in anything, I don't believe, so why start now? |
|
I don't believe Smith & Wesson owns Walther. S&W is the importer of Walther defensive centerfire and rimfire pistols, while someone else imports their airguns and target rimfire rifles and pistols. IMO, it was simply a marketing agreement between the two. Walther gets access to S&W's distribution and service netwrok, while S&W gets access to the P99 design and keeps the 45 ACP chambering to itself. |
| I think Walther was going to take a wait and see approach before jumping into it. Remember the .45 market is really a US market and I don't believe the SW99 in .45 sold very well. I don't think there was too much of an interest in the SW99 .45 by American shooters. I know the place where I bought mine from sat in the shop well over a year, I think he said more like two. He did'nt know why they don't sell well. He said when it comes to polymer .45s people want HKs and Glocks. |
Who knows...... The shop where I bought mine, I know was their last one. Now, whether or not it had been there for 2 years, I have no clue. I do know the new DAO trigger design is stinking up the joint.............. |

I have seen hand handled this at a local dealer. They seem very nice. My concern is getting magazines for this. While "glock" Mags are cheap to buy - these mags - when you can find them are about $ 40. That adds alot to the bottom line if you like to have 5+ mags.. I have "read" that the 9mm is the best of this seriers and the others are not as desirable.. I was looking at the .45 - but may be considering a 4506 .. |
