I currently own a 642 which I have been using for CCW in a Kramer ankle or IWB holster. The load is Federal Nyclad P38M. I'm thinking of gifting it to a family member soon and was thinking of either getting another 642 or a 340. I handled a 340 at my local dealer today and the light weight was amazing. Also, it has the same profile as my 642, so my holsters will all work just fine. Now, my 642 has a pretty snappy recoil to it. How does the 340 compare? Is it a HUGE difference? If not, I may give it a try. I haven't decided if I will even consider using .357 rounds in it. I will probably stick with a standard or +P .38 for it. Opinions? Thanks! |
The difference is noticeable with .357mag ammo. .38spl, not so much, IMO. For a J-Frame, less weight is the end-all, be-all for me. I'm certainly not gonna use it for IPSC nor will I shoot 1000 rds thru it every year. My .o2 |
I have a 340PD and shooting magnums in it is sorta like hitting yourself with a hammer...it feels so good when you quit!![]() Like Bob, however, I really like the lighhter weight, and .38+P or +P+ are not all that bad for a few rounds...I never shoot it a lot as that is what full size guns are for. |
