Just transfered my shield from ky guns tonight looked in the box the 8rd with finger ext. Was in the gun the other msg was floating in the bottom. Got home and both are 8rd mags just the one has the plastic though. Who should I contact s&w or ky guns to see if I can swap it for the short mag? ... I kinda bought the little dude to be as small as possible and right now its not looking good lol

I had the opposite problem  My Shield came with two 7-round mags.

S&W wanted me to ship one of the 7-rounders back (on my dime) so they could swap it for an 8-rounder.

Just buy a short mag for carry and keep the two 8 rounders for reloads. Problem solved.

Yeah, but one of them is missing the plastic which covers the gap.  I'd use it in an emergency, but I'd sure as hell not want to keep that magazine.

Couple points about this post...

First of all, the black plastic spacer slides over the magazine.

Second, when slamming a magazine home at speed, that spacer has a tendency to pinch the palm of the gun hand on these compact and sub-compact guns.
So the absence of this spacer only effects aesthetics... Well, for me anyway as I shoot equally well without the spacer as with it.

No shit that's exactly what she told me to do .... I opened a email request guess well se if they'll swap em out for me wtf would you ask the buyer to pay to ship it back with no ra # or anything .I picture me sending it in and never seeing anything back in return. That was the worst attempt at a customer service call I've seen.... Well maybe not the worst but definitely the most wtf?

So you're saying that you remove the plastic spacer from your 8 round magazines?

The first thing I do is remove those. They can also work their way down the mag and not allow the mag to fully seat in the pistol. I'd try for a free mag, if a no-go I'd order a 7 rounder.

OP.

I'd make S&W send me the plastic thing that covers the gap on the 8rd magazines even if you plan to use them without that piece.  Make them pay to fix this.

Then buy a 7rd magazine.

Ya I watched mac's video a few times and saw how he had to smack it a few times to get it to seat when trying to show how it can move  down a bit. The more I think of it I may just see if I can find a 7 somewhere and have the 2nd 8 rd for carrying as backup mags just a bit pissed I don't have the flush fit since that's really what the gun is designed around imo

I recently picked up a couple 8 round mags and conceal carry them as reloads without the spacers.

Sometimes I carry the gun with an 8rounder with the spacer in place.

The mags work with or without the spacer, so at speed or under stress, I don't need to worry about a pinched palm.

I was debating on using something like nail polish or a drop of superglue gel to make sure the spacer stays put.  I've seen mine creep up.

I'll probably take the spacer off and use it as a reload--but I have a concealed pistol class coming up, so it may be best to have a comfortable 8rd mag.
