I can add some pics tonight but basicly I bought a model 59 that was a sherrifs gun. It is a little beat up and I kind of liked that since 99% of the other firearms I have are mint and I'm woried about keeping them that way. So what I didn't notice was a vertical crack in the slide running along where the extractor pin is. It can bee seen through the outside and slightly inside.

My questions are should I have a pistol smith of some kind repair it or just find another slide.

Can a model 39 slide fit? They seem to be easier to find. Or any other for that matter.?

Or should I just stick it in the safe and say F-it. Maybe it's cursed since the sherrif that used it had to blast someone with it. I thought it made it more interesting.

On a side note it has trouble ejecting rounds, about 1 in 5.

Are you pretty much stuck with it?

Or did you get it from someone, who would be understanding about selling a gun with a cracked slide, and stand behind their sale?

There is this one gunbroker but I don't know if it's exactly like yours.

He would probably give me my money back but I only gave $250 for it and if I spend a little and make it work I would like to keep it.

that looks damn close. thats why i thought the 39 and 59 were the same up top just mine is double stack frame.

Replace

Law guns shoot minimum of 100+ rounds a month.  Law guns are shot with high velocity+++ rounds.  Cracked frames are common among the heavily shot law guns.
Which may explain why the Sheriff was selling it.

Slide is the same for a 59 or 39.
Get an extra slide. That should solve your problem.

I've been searching for a non-blued Model 59 for years...can post up a pic?  I love them.

Long story short I had this S&W Model 59 that was my very first duty gun as a new LEO and the first handgun I'd ever owned.  Foolishly, not realizing the sentimental value it would later hold, I sold it for a Glock 21 because I wanted to carry a .45acp..  The chances of finding that exact gun is virtually impossible but I've been searching for a similar gun ever since to ease the pain of selling it a bit.

Just in case anyone out there ever thinks of selling a gun ask yourself first if there is any reason, no matter how insignificant at the time it may seem, that this particular gun might mean something to you later in life.  If you can think of anything....don't sell it.
