I have a 1999 S&W mod 411. its beat up, ugly as sin and in general a nasty little bitch. last trip to the range and she quit extracting spent shells. I could get one maybe two shots, then I get a FTE. Rack the slide a few times and she would spit up the case.
I either need a new spring or extractor, but I cant seem to find the parts for a mod 411. I know this is a value line series, but i have to imagine its still worth fixing. Any S&W gurus out here who can help point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance. |
| Pretty rare for a modern S&W auto to actually break an extractor. I would first check the area behind the extractor (in the slide cut) for gunk, etc. and clean it good. Next I would suspect the spring. But unless you can see a chip / break in the extractor itself, I think one or both of those actions should get you going. If not, check with the factory and see if they still have any extractors and springs. |
| The extractor should be the same as a late model 459/659 or a 5904/5906. You could also polish the chamber with flitz on barrel mop and a hand drill. If the pistol is that old I'd consider replacing the recoil spring. If the extractor shows no wear the extractor spring should be stiff and getting movement on the hook by pushing on the rear of the extractor arm should be difficult. |
