Is it worth replacing the trigger in the 9mm shield? I love my shield excellent little gun but the trigger is a little on the heavy side

yes and no. there are many of these threads. some ppl say all m&p pistols should get an apex kit. most ppl agree that the shield is improved with an apex kit, but not as much as the full size m&p's are improved. i have upgraded my shield with apex shield kit, ameriglo pro i-dot, and CF-shield. is it better? YES. was it worth it? I dont know, yet. |
| I have the kit on its way...should be here on the 9th. I will be doing the trigger kit and xs big dots (which I have on my G19 and love!). I read A LOT of reviews and still couldn't tell if this is what I'm looking for. Last week I was at the range and had a few trigger pulls that I thought reset, but didn't. I'll give a review in the next few weeks |

Not just yes, but HELL YES!!!
I was skeptical at first...I really liked the Shield's trigger. It felt very crisp and it wasn't hard to pull the trigger at all. Also, the grittiness for me was only experienced AFTER the sear released and I pulled the trigger into the over-travel area. With a decocked sear, if you pulled the trigger, you would feel the grittiness, but the take-up portion on a cocked sear didn't seem to have this problem so much. So I had decided that I didn't need the Apex kit. But after thinking about it for like 3 weeks, I decided to get it since I was replacing my sights...and didn't want to have to mess with the rear sight ever again. OMFG...what a difference. Words cannot describe the changes properly. As good as the Shield's trigger was...the Apex Trigger is much better. I've seen it described as going from a good trigger to a great trigger. I'd say it was going from a good trigger to an awesome trigger. If the Shield isn't going to be your primary CCW piece, I may not suggest doing the upgrade, but I've elevated my Shield as my primary carry piece so I went all out. One more thing to note...I also polished out the Striker Block channel to make sure there were no spurs in there causing any grittiness. My trigger is buttery smooth now whereas before it was just adequately utilitarian. I have yet to shoot it. I've only dry fired it about 50 times with the new trigger. I'll be taking it to the range tomorrow. I can't do speed shooting at this range, so really testing out follow up shots isn't an option. They want a good 1 second between shots. To recap: GET THE APEX TRIGGER KIT for the Shield |

I did however have to purchase a sight pusher off of ebay to get the rear sight off. I havent had a chance to get to the range yet because i had an issue with my XS big dots sights, the rear sight has a screw that i was unable to move and ended up striping out the wrench that was provided. I will be contacting them on Monday for a replacement. I was going to just loc tight it but it is fairly lose and i would like that screw to work properly. Will update with a range report in a week or so, but the little dry firing i have done. The trigger has lost its grittiness and is very smooth! |

My wife shoots low and to the left with her shield. First I thought it was recoil anticipation but she can shoot my 1911 and .357 very good. I think it has to do with the long trigger pull since the 1911 and the .357 both have VERY nice triggers.
Would the APEX kit help her? I want her to be accurate with her carry gun. |

There is s lot of take-up on the apex trigger. The distance to fire one this take-up is gone is rather small. |
