| I recenrly inherited my grnadfathers M28 hiway partolmen. Gun was made around 1973. Great gun that i will never part with. The problem is after a few cylinders full of shooting the ejector rod un screwsand locks up the gun. Can i just put some locktite on it and go or should i send it to Smith? |

You can use a little Loctite BLUE thread locker. Blue is the low strength temporary type that's correct for this usage.
Degrease the threads on the end of the rod and in the ejector shaft. Be careful not to use more than just a small amount or it may migrate and get into areas you don't want locked. You can also use fingernail polish, but you have to work faster. You can also just tighten the rod to the correct tightness and it'll almost always stay put for the life of the gun. To do this, first put three EMPTY cases in the chambers to support and protect the ejector shaft and the cylinder hole. Grip the ejector rod with a well padded vise, or by padding some pliers with brass, copper, or lead to protect the rod and tighten the rod snuggly. How much is "snuggly" is a pistolsmith's judgment call. The threads are fine and you CAN strip the threads on the rod, or worse on the ejector shaft. When snugging the rod tight, you have to be very careful not to bend the easily bent rod. |

Concur with properly tightening and a dab of blue loctite.
I bought the below tool a year ago, and it's been worth its weight in gold for a few of my revolvers. I like to tinker with my guns, so I'm always inside them. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/784689/power-custom-revolver-extractor-rod-removal-tool |
