I was handling some revolvers at the semi-local Gander Mountain Gun World. I saw some new 686 Talo's for $899, these are what I'm interested in, I love the un-fluted cylinder and the grips.

Then there were two New 627 Performance Center revolvers that caught my eye.
One had Hogue molded grips with orange, high visibility 686 style front sight for $949.99.
The other had wood composite grips and brass bead front site a la standard fair from the performance center for $1249.99.
I checked the model number in the frame; they were both 627-5s, 8-shot .357magnum, Performance Center and Pro Series Roll Marks. I know the Smith & Wesson website says that the 627 comes with wood and synthetic grips, so I asked why the price difference and the Customer Service Associate couldn't tell me the difference. Actually he didn't even know what a performance center revolver was. So what is the hives opinion:
Is it just Gander Mountain incompetence in pricing and labeling or is there truly a $300 difference between the two revolvers?
Knowing that Gander Mountain usually sells guns at or above  Manufacturers MSRP I probably should have jumped on the 627 for $949.99 and asked to see the box and accouterments to make sure that both sets of sights and grips were with it.

Obligatory generic picture:

Are you sure that you were not looking at a Pro Series AND a PC 627?

The Pro Series has the grips and sights you mention, while the PC would have the PC action job and PC parts.

But the roll marks were exactly the same as the Pro Series. The barrel was not Marked as "357 MAGNUM 8 TIMES" as the one pictured above and both had the same length barrel.

These are not marked the same:
