Anyone have trouble with the stainless slides rusting? And if so, did s&w do anything about it?

They will replace it for you, as long as you don't have acid sweat.

They replaced mine for me.  Contact them and they will email you a shipping label.

I will give that a try, thanks. I really hope they will take care of it because it looks terrible!

They are usually pretty fast about these things...couple weeks, maybe.

I sent in a M&P 15-22 recently and the turn around was extremely fast. It took less than two weeks from the day I shipped to receive the gun back. The only negative was they didn't tell me what they did to repair it. It just said "updated to current spec". Best I can tell they only changed the bolt.

That sounds good, I can deal with a couple weeks, especially since they are barely an Hr away from me.
I don't see them repairing my slide, it has some pits in the finish. I'm hoping they will just send me a new one.
Thanks for the responses, ill let you guys know how it goes!

Funny... I was just considering contacting them about the rust on my 9c slide. It's only 2.5yr old and has only been carried for about a year but the scales/scallops are rusting. I've just been coating the rust in CLP and forgetting about it. It hasn't got any worse since I noticed it ~9mo ago.

Yeah mine has been like this for a while, but im finally getting around to getting it taken care of. I know s&w had problems with the coating on the stainless slide for certain production runs. When i spoke with them yesterday, I was told that this should be covered under the lifetime waranty. SO i figure if they will warranty the slide, why not send it in. It just bothers me because i take good care of my firearms and it just looks like crap. Im sending it out tomorrow, hoping for good news from them.

For some reason I was thing that stainless steel didn't rust.  Anyone know if you can have the same finish Glock puts on theirs guns put on the M&P?

SS definitely can rust, it's just less likely to rust. Glock uses Tenifer which is a tweaked nitrocarbonization process but there are numerous very similar processes available. Melonite is a generic name for the process. Sorry, I'm not sure who offers these coatings to joe schmoe but I know I've seen them.

WMD Guns does Melonite and nickel boron. H&M Metal Processing is the OE nitrider for S&W,

Further, Glock parkerizes over the Tenifer treatment.

(I'm in no way a Glock fan boy.)

Martin County Sheriffs Office had issues with rusting slides and slides that would close during the reload process.

I got my m&p back from Smith & Wesson yesterday. They had it for about 3 weeks. I had no contact with them at all while they had my pistol. I was happy to see when i got it back i had a brand new slide installed. So hopefully it will be good to go. Not one part of this transaction, including shipping, cost me anything at all. I cant say enough for S&W customer service, they have always come through for me when i needed  them to. I am a very happy customer and will be buying more products from them in the future!

I just sent my 22A in for repair last month they had it two weeks, and I did not pay a dime either.  Their people were friendly and the pistol os back with all new recoil parts, extractor parts and ready for another 25k rounds.
