I've got two glock 9mm,  was thinking about getting a 45, instead of going with another glock I might get the
 M&P45.

are they reliable and for the most part trouble free?

I haven't owned mine for quite long enough to give you a difinitive answer. I've got a full size M&P .45 with the dark earth frame, no mag disconnect safety, no internal lock, and with the ambi thumb safety. Having not owned it long enough to comment on long-term reliability I will say this... The pistol has won me over so far. I have been a long time fan of 1911's, and with the small backstrap installed, the M&P .45 feels very similar in my hand to my 1911's. Grip angle is good, the factory sights are a huge step above those that come standard on a Glock.

I think the internal design is built a bit beefier than that of the Glock, and I quickly discovered that the M&P can be field stripped just like a Glock if the user chooses to do so. (Meaning you don't have to mess with the little sear lever dealie whopper if you don't want to). Accuracy is quite good for a plastic defensive pistol, as long as the shooter does their part. My only complaint is that the trigger in factory configuration is not the greatest. That being said... I am aware of no parts that can be added to make the trigger on a Glock anywhere near as nice as an M&P with APEX parts installed.

In a year or so, I might be ready to comment on the long term reliability of the M&P .45, but for now I will say that it is flawless after a couple hundred rounds.

At this point, I am willing to say that I am thrilled with my M&P, and may commit to the platform (with the exception of my work issued Sig P220) after a bit more time has passed. I would recomend the M&P .45 at this point to anyone looking for something different.

All I know is that I have put almost 2000 rounds through mine without a single malfunction.... I couldn't ask for anything better than that!

I've had a few full size M&P 45's and they have all worked great for me.  The factory trigger is not the greatest so I have apex sears installed in both of my M&P's.  The aftermarket has really stepped up for the M&P.  You just have to decide if you are ready to get rid of your Glocks once you try out the M&P.    David

300 rounds in and happy.

There are a number of 45 models, and three distinctive frames, 45c, 4" and 4.5".  Personally, I would have preferred the mid-size, but there were no holsters available.  I went with the full-size.  Of all the guns I tried, (Sig, Glock, Springfield, S&W, FN) it felt the best.  I do like the 1911 feel, and I like my 1911.  The M&P is not my $1300 1911, but for what it is, I am happy with my choice.

I have my MP45 and I like it, its my bed side gun, and I also carry it when I can. Its shoots realiable I just installed an APEX sear and Trigger spring and it now shoots awesome. I also stippled the grips which helped a little bit.

I have a 45C and I really like it!  I dont have many rounds downrange with it, but it has been reliable and as accurate as I can hope for.  Carries nicely, feels great in my hand, and shoots very well.

PM sent.

M&P45 Compact owner here. Roughly 800 rounds so far. Love it. It is my everyday carry weapon, competition, and soon to be training gun. No complaints, just need to shoot it more.

M&P 45 full size here 300rnds so far no issues. Hands down the comfort is better than the Glock. Own a G19(Gen2) that I have put somewhere in the vicinity of 12k rnds through with no issues.
I am going to side on the need for an Apex trigger. Stock trigger just plain sucks. I have a Ghost Rocket 3.5 in the Glock and I think is better than the Apex due to reset and over travel at almost 0.

My only hesitation with the M&P though is the seer/safety system. I don't feel that the seer/safety system is as good as a Glock. I don't have the thumb safety. Don't believe in them. And  the M&P is in a full cocked state with only the seer block safety and trigger safety in the way of the striker. On the Glock, the striker is in a half cocked state until the trigger is fully engaged. My concern is the possibility of the M&P taking a hit at an angle that would cause the seer to release and the plunger to depress enough to allow for a discharge. Maybe I am over worried about the possibility, but it is a concern I have with the M&P system.

I had a full size in FDE. I had run maybe 1000 rounds through it of mixed brass and steel cased. No problems at all.

I sold it and went to 9mm and 40, only due to the cost of ammo.
