Hey everyone, my dad purchased the bodyguard 38 about a couple of 3 months ago. When he first got it we both noticed the cylinder was not latching when we closed it. So my dad had gandermountain send it back to smith&wesson for a repair. When my dad recieved it back he was still having the same problems with the cylinder latching. We actually went to the range and the cyliner opened while he was firing the gun. So my dad sent it back a second time and smith&wesson never touched the gun and said there was nothing wrong with it.

Has anyone else experienced similiar problems with their bodyguards?

How clean is it?   Have you cleaned under the ejector star?  Look it over for burrs on the parts involved, cylinder release (thumb button), cylinder rod and pin and hole.  Look at the center spring loaded button that goes into the frame to lock it in  try depressing it a few times to see if it is binding up  add a little oil .  Look at the hole it goes into see if there is some obstruction.  If you cant figure it out  find a GOOD gunsmith and take it to him and get him to look at that and probably consider having a trigger job done the trigger return spring is usually too strong on most of them and they can be improved quite a bit.  We may be returning to the way S&W was in the 80's put out lots of crap some of which works.   Check the timing on it    ––-  the cylinder stop should lock up engaging the cylinder at the bottom of the cylinder to lock it in place PRIOR to the hammer falling.
Sit down and spend some time with it  - open and close is snap it  and work the action   -  if it is new think of it as breaking it in.

A small burr could easily escape inspection at S&W.   If  all else fails and you have no good gunsmith available send it back again till they get it right.
