I don't know much about S&W 5946 Pistols. Recently acquired one as a Police Trade in from the Des Moines PD. The pistol is double action only, is there any way to change it over to single action?

Sure, but you'd be into it for more than it's worth.

I carried a company 5946TSW and found it to be a good shooting pistol, the DAO trigger is consistent and easier to learn than  it's DA/SA counterpart.

I'm sort of fond of the S&W DAO pistols.  One of my main carry guns is a 3953 and I agree that the DAO is more consistent and easier to shoot/train with than the SA/DA system.

Just remember, if you are used to shooting striker fired guns such as Glocks, XDs, M&Ps, etc. that the trigger on Smith DAO guns must reset further and you will shoot slower until you learn that.
