I have a S&W model 637 Airweight 38 Spl, 2 in snub nose revolver. I recently purchased a HKS Model 36-A speed loader for a J frame revolver. The speed loader seems to hang up on the rubber boot grip. What do I do to make this work without butchering my grips?. Or is their another product out their that will do the same thing?. I already have speed strips but want something faster. Thank you for the help.

I had a similar problem on my N frame with wood grips.

The only way the speed loaders would work is with Pachmayr grips.

I bought these Hideout grips from Brownells.

They are hard grips and need to be sanded down to work with speedloaders.

Just use a dremel and sandpaper.  Finish with 1000/2000 grit for a factory-like appearance..

It's a very easy job and work fine with the HKS's.

My Safarilands hang up on the Arhends grips I have on my Mod 36, but not my Mod 66.

It due to the size of, of lack there of, the grip on a J Frame.

Pretty common with most revolver grips these days.  Usually with practice you can come up with a technique that works.  Switching brands of speed loaders won't help.  I've run HKS, Safariland, and Jetsonic and they can all do it.

The newer grips are too wide to use speedloaders.  My model 642 came with grips that don't interfere with speedloader function; they are made by Hogue and are 2 part grips.  My friend just got a 638 and it's grips were too wide :(  He decided to use speed strips rather than replace the grips.
