So I've read the threads about the J&G trade in's and I'm just about ready to order.
I have a couple of Star BM's and one of the Sig P6, a Beretta 92 seems like a natural fit.

My question is, why not the 92F?  Is the cracked slide problem a possibility?

Otherwise, what's the difference?

Thanks.

I own both.  Have owned a 92F since the beginning.  Never a problem.  The crack slide problems were largely amplified by those that were ticked off at the US Military switching from the 1911 in .45 to the 9mm.

Majority of cracked slides were due to excessive number of loads with much heavier than normal 9mm bullets.

The main difference is an insert on the left side of the frame that is designed to capture the slide if it cracks before it can fly off and hit the shooter.  I have never seen a cracked Beretta 92 slide..and have never seen the 92FS capturing a cracked slide.

I am 100% comfortable with either

I too have owned a police trade-in 92F without any problems and I really like the gun.  Buy more metal framed guns I know I have been.  I liked it so much that I jumped on the J&G sale and bought a 92FS as well.  You won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the replies.

I guess I got a little ahead of myself.  I was looking at the 5+ price on the 92F against each price on the 92FS.
1 to 1 the price difference is negligible.

I have come to the perfect ARFCOM solution, get both!

The only reason I would get a used and FS over an F is the FS is going to be newer.  That said I have seen some local PD trade in Fs that were like new because they had been replaced with FS models as soon as they were available and kept as extras until they were all replaced by 96s.
