Thinking about getting my first Beretta. I have been a HiPower and 1911 kind of guy for a long time.

I'm thinking of starting off with the 92FS, as it is our current military sidearm.

I have two questions...

1) It would be kind of nice to have adjustable sights. Is there a 92 that comes with those?

2) My local guy has an olive drab (new) 92FS for the same price as a black one. What is the consensus on green ones?

Thanks much!

What about a Taurus?

identical look, lower price, and lifetime warranty.

main difference is the Beretta has the slide mounted safety, and the Taurus has it frame mounted. I personally prefer the Taurus.

you might want to take a look at a vertec 92 , if you are coming from a 1911/ hi Power background i think you'll enjoy the ergonomics of the vertec style grip , I know i hated the feel of the 92 series till i tried the vertec. at least go look at one and put your fingers around it . either way for a fun cheap to shoot plinker the beretta 92's are fun , lots of good quality control behind them now. can't say the same for taurus . I'm not a Taurus fan at all .

I would check on that olive drab gun and be certain it is, in fact, a factory new Beretta manufactured as such with this color choice by Beretta. My guess is that it has been refinished by someone else. If the factory had the finish job done, they will stand by the warranty...if not...even on a new and unfired gun...bye, bye warranty.

I prefer black anyway.

Thanks for all the replies, guys. I went ahead and got the standard black 92FS. I liked the larger grip of the regular as opposed to the vertec because I have really large hands. Hopefully, I will get to shoot it this weekend.

My local dealer has one of the OD green 92's, and he says that it is a factory finish.  I liked it alot.  Just one more thing to add to my wishlist.

Perhaps more than any gun design other than a 1911, the 92FS benefits tremendously from a trigger job (smoothing) & changing to Wolf springs.

While Taurus makes a nice little gun, it's no Beretta.
