Was at the range a while back and a friend brought his 92.  The slide would lock back after each round.  He toyed with it for a while but never solved the problem.  Saw him this afternoon and he has not fixed it yet.  Said he called Beretta and they suggested he get an armourers DVD to learn about the weapon.

Despite being an engineer he is not the handiest guy around.

Any ideas on troubleshooting the problem?

ETA: One factory mag and 2 aftermarket, happened with both.

Either A:, the slide stop spring is installed incorrectly, or B: more likely is that the shooters thumbs or fingers are pushing the slide stop up.

Thanks.  Knowing my pal I'm going with the slide stop spring.

Or we all have poor grips, which is also possible!

Well, does he keep his thumb below the slide stop when gripping?  I have the opposite problem.  Doesn't lock back after the last round sometimes.  My thumb sits practically on top of it.

I had a similar problem after the first time I dis/re-assembled my Beretta. My slide would lock on every last round before the mag was spent. The issue with my problem turned out to be the slide catch spring. It's tiny and the slide catch will fit and work fairly normally without the tension end of the spring sitting in place correctly. I went to the range three times and cleaned all my mags once before I realized what was wrong. Now it works like a dream again. The littlest things are easily overlooked and can sometimes cause immense aggravation.

Also, TexasGuy's videos (hotlisted at top of the forum) were a great help to me when I bought my first Beretta. Mine was a 92D, not a 92FS, but the manuals are available for free from Beretta for gun-owners and it was easy to discern what his gun had that mine didn't. Hope your buddy gets his gun working in tip-top shape again.

Praetor, thanks a ton.  I'll bet that's it.  I'll pass this along.

As always, I appreciate the help.
