Anybody using a higher strength recoil spring in their Beretta's? Does it absorb more of the recoil or does it negatively affect the function?

Depends on how much higher than stock you go. Keep in mind that a stouter spring will slow down the rearward travel, but will also speed up the forward return. Granted, the rd being fed will absorb some of this additional energy, but there is a point of diminishing returns.

I normally run recoil springs 2-3lbs higher in almost all of my non-polymer framed semi's.

I agree find a good balance. Heavier=less felt recoil, but beacuse the slide is moving faster on the return you get more dip in the muzzle.
