I'd like to get a beretta 92, but I want one with a short slide/barrel like the centurion and a frame mounted safety or no safety at all (but i've never seen a beretta without a safety so I doubt these exist...).

Is it feasible to get a Beretta 92 in this config?

You can still find 92 compacts around, as for the frame mounted safety maybe in the older ones. Good luck, but you might take a look at a HK USP compact also, it has the frame mounted safety you want and is a fine firearm.

Not quite what I had in mind, but I do like the old beretta compacts.  Part of the reason I want a 92 is because they use very common magazines which are also used by the military, that would be handy in a SHTF scenario, or if I want to get a CX4.  Will the compacts take full size beretta 92 mags?

Upon further research It seems like the closest thing to what I want is a 92D Centurion, but I'm not sure I want a DAO.  How is the trigger pull?  I have a DAO .38 J frame that I like a lot, but I was thinking in terms of a decocker for my next semi auto.

Yes they do, but will stick out the bottom of course. I have a 92FS, M9 and 92 CX4 and besides liking a M9's feel the best out of any pistol, wanted that commonality too. There a great combo together, are worth having and all very accurate. Finding a 92 without atleast a decocker though is something I don't think exists. The 92D pull should be the same as my 92/M9's DA pull since I've changed both hammer springs out to a D spring making it lighter. I can't tell you what it weighs, but it's not a bad pull at all. I do like DA/SA better though for faster and lighter pull followup shots.

Thanks for the input.  I just noticed that the 9000S actually has a grip adapter that lets standard 92 mags fit flush, and it has a frame mounted safety, I might take a look at one of those as well.

Beretta has made a few new guns with the frame mounted safety and no decocker...their Competition Model comes to mind...and, of course, some of the early M92s had the same setup. They are DA / SA but you have to thumb-lower the hammer if you do not want it cocked. There are also a few South African Vektor SP1s out there...essentially a Beretta 92 with enclosed slide and a different grip...that use this system, (I own one) and they take the standard Beretta magazines just fine. Mine shoots extremely well, but is not for sale.

The DAO Berettas are pretty nice IMO and while the trigger pull is long and the reset also, it is very smooth and fairly light. They did make a few...very few as I understand it..."G" (decocker only) Model Centurions, but these were for LE sale only. You may find one for sale on the used market.

Me, I would wait for the PX4 to come available with the "continuous motion" trigger, similar to the Sig DAK...a light DAO...as I much prefer the PX4 to the 92FS, but then you will not have magazine compatibility.

if you want a 9000S, get them while you can. AFIK, the pistol has been discontinued

I have found the trigger pulls on these to be horrendous.
