I ordered a Wolff trigger conversion unit earlier this week, along with a spring serivce pack. The springs arrived Via USPS within three days of placing the order on their website. I had also ordered three "D" hammer springs and an Elite skeletonized hammer from David Olhasso who also does Beretta work. The trigger conversion unit changes the trigger return spring from a standard wire spring to a coiled unit. The purpose is to eliminate the breakage that sometimes occurs with the standard trigger spring at high round counts. I probably don't need it to begin with, as I doubt I'll shoot my 92 to the point of breaking the trigger spring, but I was going to have it apart anyway for the hammer and "D" spring, so I figured what the heck? As can be expected the Wolff spirngs were top notch quality and the service pack went in with no effort. The trigger conversion unit came with instructions that were easy to follow, and replacement was mindless. It was seriously only slightly harder than field stripping the gun. Perfect fit, perfect function. Ingenious design as well. The conversion unit didn't change trigger pull at all in any way that I could tell. I bought the stock strength. There is one that's has a heavier rating for faster reset, and one with a lighter rating for a lighter trigger. I didn't want anything different. I just wanted to eliminate a possible weak spot, so I opted for the OEM strength. I don't know if the other two really do anything different. www.gunsprings.com/SemiAuto/BerettaNF.html#TCU is the website describing the conversion unit. I also installed the "D" spring in the pistol. It's an "FS", but the "D" spring supposedly lightens the trigger pull without sacrificing reliability. Afterall, it's good enough for the "D" model, so logically it will work. Installation was easy, though actually required a tool to push out the pin holding the plug in place. The Elite hammer went in just as easy and looks great. I bought the hammer strictly for the looks. The DA trigger pull was nicer. It feels smoother and lighter. For $5, it's a no-brainer. I also replaced the hammer spring in my compact. The nice things about the 92 series is they're fairly standard with parts, so the hammer spring is the same for the full-size as the compact, even though the compact has a shorter 13 shot frame. It made a tremendous difference in this gun. The DA pull was night and day compared to the original. My compact also doesn't have anywhere near the number of rounds through it that my standard FS does, so the newer spring may have something to do with it. It could also be some sort of geometry thing with the compact over the longer frame. Either way the hammer spring replacement was far more effective in the compact. Service from Dave was top-notch. I have rarely expereinced service this good and fast. The parts arrived at my house the second day after I placed the order on his website via USPS. EXCELLENT serivce and I'll definately be thowing more money his way. I don't mind paying extra for good service, but the reality is Dave's prices are actually better than most people as well. You just can't beat that. www.olhasso.com/beretta/index.htm will bring you to his website. I took a cue from some folks over on the Brettaforum board and bought a size 6 crochet needle. It's the perfect Beretta tool. There's a hook for hooking springs, etc and the other end is perfect to push out most of the pins. I'm sure it will be used on other guns as well. Needless to say, that's become a permanent addition to my gun tool box. |
