| I just picked up a new 92A1 and noticed they have replaced the spring and guide rod with an enclosed assembly. Can I safely replace this with a regular spring and metal guide rod? Are the diameters the same or will this be an issue? Thanks. |

You can do this,
but you need to keep the bushing, part #39 in this Schematic from Brownells. Ric @ The Beretta Forum,(maker of the new SGS Comps also makes a Metal one for around $8 bucks. |
| The reason for the switch was two fold. #1 plastic is a lot cheaper than metal #2 the grooves keep crap like sand and mud from impeding the cycling. A bent rod will usually still allow the gun to cycle. Hell most of the new A1 rods are bent from the factory and they work just fine. |

I have heard that the reason they went to plastic is that if the metal guide rod bends, it will keep the pistol from cycling. Not sure if this is gospel or not. True not... The second part is true, if the guide rod bends ... The first part is not true... The reason is plastic is cheaper. Will this metal bend ? No, not without someone trying hard to Will the plastic one break or wear , no |
| I just picked up a 92A1 a couple of months ago. I never shot it with the plastic recoil spring assembly. When I got it home from the show, I got online and ordered a Beretta factory guide rod and spring. I was able to put 150 trouble free rounds through it. I like the stainless guide rod better than the blue one in my older 92 FS. |
