Hello I have a new P226R  that is just got about month ago.  I have been really busy and havent had the chance to look at the gun close until now.  I noticed that the barrel has some wear and I am wondering if this is normal for a gun that is new.  I have hand cycled the gun a number of times.

Well looking only at the bottom the barrel looks to be lightly used. I recently got a new P229 and there were some wear marks like that on my new pistol. Not because it was used a lot but mainly factory checks and such.

All barrels and rails will show wear. I have found that a good way to break in is get a high quality oil like Shooters Choice fp10, and limit to maybe 50 rds. Then wipe off the rails, barrel,  guide rod/spring, slide barrel opening, and re-oil it all. Running grease on break-in just collects grit and speeds up the wear process. On tight fitted pistols it scratches. The last X-5 I bought had the recoil spring on backwards––haha ––-

Barrel wear looks normal and sits in its normal position.  Your all good.

I prefer to put some grease on the barrel in the places you get the smileys.  It will reduce the wear on those spots but you will never get them to disappear or stop from slowly getting worse.

It will get more and more and more wear the more you use it. It's the way it works. Don't worry about it. However if you actually begin to feel any displacement of material... thats a different story.

Yeah Looks normal. IMHO, I would order a factory hollow steel guide rod for it. $12.00 from Brownells or Top gun supply. It's the same one for either  the P220/P226. Just remember to install the green painted side of the recoil spring on first (facing the locking lug). Thanks to Ron Cohen they're cheaping out and installing plastic guide rods. My P228R had a plastic one from the factory and the sling shot slide pull was rough/jerky, the steel guide rod is much smoother. .Also pull off the right grip and hit the trigger bar and hammer/sear interface with the supplied mil-comtw25b grease(little ampule supplied with the gun). Re-install the grip, load a snap cap via the mag and pull the trigger in Double action 50 times or so. Presto instant trigger job.

Plus 1.  Did this for my new P229 as well.  From Brownells the NOS Sig part was under $5 with my dealer account.
