Got it. Thanks to all who replied with pics and info.

I bought a P220 couple weeks ago from a local LEO. It looked good in the ad, but when I got it back to the shop, I got to looking at it, inside front of the slide has very obvious heat discoloration, maybe from welding?
Outside looks good, but, he did mention it had been "nitrited" or something like that. Was the slide rewelded at sometime then refinished to cover the outside discoloration?
I've had P-6s, P-228s and 226s and 229s, never seen anything like this on those slides.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Looks too perfect on the outside to be welded IMO,I would think the lettering would be off.

I'll go look at my 220 and see if I find anything similar.I don't think mine has been refinished ever though.
ETA mine has no heat discoloration like that. The writing still looks too good even in the blury photos to be welded though. How does the top of the slide look?

It's probably a side-effect of the refinish.  My Nighthawk Custom was done in their "Diamonblack" finish and the inside of the slide showed rainbows like yours did.  I wouldn't worry about it.

Its nothing My formerly NIB (300 rounds yesterday)Sig 229 looks almost the same. A lot of heat is generated in the milling process of the slides and some (all) of them look this way after they are finshed...I also belive tht Sig no longer gives the inside of the slides a full coating of their Nitron finish which use to hide the dicoloration..
So your Sig is fine Shoot and enjoy!!

The muzzle end (about an inch) of stamped slide SIGs is welded on to the rest of the slide after it is formed in a press.  What you're seeing is probably an artifact of that process, maybe made more visible if it's been refinished.

Rainbow.....gay gun?  Kidding, mine looks very similar, its a new 220 Combat. I think sig isnt too concerned about what the inside looks like.

That's the way  most of my nitron sig slides look like. If the last owner had it re-nitroned by sig, that is the way they look now. It is supposedly where the slide is clamped during the process.
And yes sig does weld stamped slides,They weld the last  inch or so for the dust cover.
Here is a pic I got from another forum.
