Went to the range today. Put 250 rounds through my 226 Navy. Have only around 500 rounds fired before today. No issues at all until today. Used two factory 15rd mags and one Mec-Gar 18rd mag. Previously used Rem GS 124gr +P and Magtech 115gr ball (I have always liked the Magtech stuff). Today, with the exception of one mag full of Rem GS, I used Rem UMC (cheap stuff) in the Mega-Pack. About every third mag would not lock the slide back after the last round. But, when I manually pulled the slide back...it locked just fine. Even tried to get it to release by tapping on the slide a bit. It was locked back nice and tight. This happened with all three mags. No other problems and otherwise cycled like a champ.
So...I'm concluding that the ammo was the issue. I guess I'll know next time when I use something different. Thought I'd go ahead and solicit some opinion anyway. Whataya think guys? |

I would confirm your slide lock post is making solid contact with the magazine followers of all three mags.
There is a short and long version out there. The post should be making solid contact and not allowing the follower to slip past it. You can check this with a field strip and flashlight. |

Most common reasons per SigForum great Chris Orndorff
Shooter's thumb interfering with slide catch lever. Shooter not holding pistol firmly. Shooter failing to clean and lube the pistol. Damaged magazine follower. Damaged slide catch lever. Damaged/worn arresting notch in slide. Severely worn magazine spring. Underpowered ammunition (especially in conjunction with some of the above issues) |

Excellent feedback gentlemen. Much appreciated.
Conducted the inspection and found the post making good solid contact with all mag followers. Slide continues to lock properly when cycled manually on empty mag. In regard to the "Most Common Reasons", I have excluded all but the first and last conditions as possibilities. Will use different ammo and pay close attention to grip next time out. Thanks again, and I'll try to remember to update. |

Concur with reason #1 Shooter's thumb interfering with slide catch lever.
Thumbs forward grip will end up with side of left thumb holding catch down. With more practice on the gun you may have changed your grip and are trapping the slide lock. I haven't had one lock back in years. Not a problem, Tap, Rack, Reengage. ... |
