So I just got in a Preban "13rnd" mag by Promag for my P229... At 1st I thought I miscounted when loading it, but sure enough, I fit 14rnds in the magazine. I didn't force it by any stretch, and had almost enough room for a 15th round... I slapped the Mag into the Pistol, and ejected a few rounds out... no problems. Has anyone experienced this? Is this Normal? Safe?

I had the exact same experience.  I bought a new P228 and found the Promag magazines through Cheaper Than Dirt. They had a good price, $14.99 best I remeber.  When I loaded mine I was surprised to find they would both hold 15 rounds.  I went out and tried firing the pistol with thme and they fit perfectly and functioned flawlessly for a while.  Since the P228 was my CCW I kept both loaded with 15 rounds.  A couple of weeks later when I had the opportunity to fire again I had a failure to feed.  One out of 50 rounds.  I didn't get concerned since the pistol was still new and only had around 300 rounds through it I attributed it to the tightness of the pistol.  A couple of months later I was able to pick up a couple of preban factory demo magazines.  They held 13 rounds.  The magazine body and followers were identical to the Promags.  The only difference I found was in the length and stiffness of the springs.  The Promag springs were significantly shorter.  I was able to stretch them back to the correct length, but I knew they wouldn't hold the set.  Since I didn't know how old the factory magazine springs were I ordered some Wollf replacement springs +10%.  Now when I carry the SIG I use the factory mags and use the Promag for range mags.  By the way I reused the old factory springs to repalce the Promag springs.  I will get some more Wolff springs soon to replace those.  My suggestion is to replace the Promag springs with the Wolff springs.  Good luck and enjoy your pistol.

That is what I was thinking, and I will def. look to get the Wolff springs. Is it still possible to cram 15 into the mags with the new springs? An extra 2rnds at the range goes a long way...

I can only get in 13, with 1 in the chamber I've got 14.  I figure its better that way so if I ever need to use the mags for more than target practice.

I bought 5 of these for my P228, all hold only 13 rounds.  Reliable to a point, I experienced a couple FTF's at the range yesterday, but I bought them as range mags.  I have four factory mags (full of 124grn HydraShoks) for ccw.  If you put followers from factory Clinton mags in preban mags, you get +2 round capacity.  This works with P226 mags as well.  MecGar made some flush fit 15rd mags for the P228, but as they now make the factory mags and have a no compete agreement, these are difficult to find at a reasonable price.

I prchased some USA magd long time ago for 5 bucks each then I loaded them 15 rounds in a 228 what gives I said. So I shot them they work great a lil snug on the load into the mag well but works ok. I thing they took 226 mags and added a finger grip or mag floor plate on the bottom of them .

I tried out the Mag on Saturday, worked beautifully, no misfeeds to report. I WAS able to get 15rnds packed into it as well, not 13 as advertised. I will probably buy a few more of these mags, cause it's nice to have an extra 5rnds without having to reload.

I plan to have my factory 10rnd mags loaded with my +P+ JHP by my bedside, and these mags loaded with cheap-o Winchester FMJ for the range.

Mecgar does make 15rd flush fitting mags for the P228, but they are hard to find. I got my hands on one, and it is a work of art. Also you can replace the 13rd mag followers with the 10rd followers to get stock 15rd mags.

My buddy has a 228 and a 226. His mags from the 226 fit in his 228 and I noticed that his 15 round 226 mags stuck out only a few milimeters from the bottom of the grip of his 228. I would imagine with the right follower his factory 13 round mags could fit 14 and maybe 15. It makes me wonder why sig didn't just extend the 228 the extra 2mm and just use the same mags.
