Went to the range yesterday.  From about ten yards I can hit a fly in the ass with my P228.  I love it.  My P220, which I have had longer, I am not nearly as good with.  I think its the "dot the I" sight picture of the P220.  If I concentrate on the sights instead of the pictures on them, I am fine, but that isn't conducive to fast shooting.  The P228 has Trijicon night sights, and the picture works much better for me.   Easy enough solution huh?  Get some Trijicons for the P220.

Anyone else get better accuracy from one particular Sig, or is it just my sights?

I've shot alot of Handguns over the past 3months while shopping. I ended up buying a 9mm 229 w/Trijicon night sights... and I shoot it better than any of the other guns I "tried on". Since it was the only one with the Night sights, I would assume they play a big part. This coming from a Noob.

edited to correct some piss-poor engrish.

I have had almost every model Sig makes at one time or another, and while they were all uniformly excellent, my 220's have always been the most accurate for me so far as group sizes are concerned. The Sig I "shoot the best" as in being able to make hits on demand under all conditions is, undoubtedly, the 225...it just shoots for me as if it had radar. Comparing absolute group sizes is useless if the gun does not fit you well enough for you to shoot it well. Still, I let my last 225 get away and still have two 220's...great guns!

I am just going to have to cough up for some night sights I guess.  I should have them on a gun I might ccw anyway.

I have heard nothing but wonderful things about P225's.  I would like to add one to the collection, but there are a few sigs in front of it right now.

Thanks for the responses!

I know what you mean.  My sights are screwing me up lately big time.  The blueing is so worn, that the edges are no longer clear.  The white outlines around the 3 tridium dots no longer exists (well, almost).  My groups have opened up.  Still qualify %95+... but thats off from my usual monthly display of exceptional talent I subject my crew to once a month.

We were shooting low light at one of my last handgun classes.  Using a flashlight technique at the time, my sight edges were rapidly visible during the night shoot. I was shooting controlled pairs eating away the X in the inner 10 ring at 10 yards!  Sweet considering I'm one of the few guys in the class not carrying single action 1911 clone.  Hell, and the 299 a COMPACT for god sakes!  HA! One of the Senior instructors finally called a cease fire, walked over next to me, drew his own weapon and shot three holes in the 7 and 8 rings.  Over the bullhorn his exact wordsafter firing were: "Stop fucking around and tighten up that god damned group!!!". No respect!  I of course retorted with a hearty "Yes, Sir!" (Not much else you can say there, really).

Convinced me to have the new sights on the way this week.  This pair has long exceeded it's 12 year warranty.

Gonna try the Novak/Trijicon 3 dot.  Yellow rear/green front.
