I just got one of those P6's that are flooding the market right now. The frame is in perfect condition, not a mark on it. The slide however is in need for some refinishing. I didn't want to spend a whole bunch of money though or send it out. I was going to go with one of the Brownell's finishes. I'm not sure if I should go with Aluma-hyde II or Gun Kote. The video shows a piece that has had all paint removed via some type of media blasting. Is this totally necessary? Can I just rough it up and paint it? I'm not looking for a professional job, just something that will look pretty decent. How durable is each finish? I use it only with a Kydex holster, not leather. |
| I was in the same boat with my P-226 and I tried the cold bluing first, but found that it does not last long and is about worthless for corrosion resistance. I then tried the GunKote from Brownells and was not happy with the results (it was the aerosol can version, so the actual produst that they sell for use with an irbrush may be far better). I ended up sending the complete upper to CGW for a refinish in their matte black and have been very happy with their work. Personally, I would just send it out for a professional refinish so you will be happy with the results. |
