Hello I'm currently looking at the Sig 220 compact online and I'm comparing dimensions and weight to my current daily carry. (Beretta 96d Centurion) Pulling up the dimensions I notice that there's not much difference between the two. Beretta Sig 220 Length 7.8 7.79 Width 1.5 1.5 Height 5.4 5.0 Weight 33.2oz 31.2oz So why would I want to give up 13+1 rounds of .40 S&W for 6+1 45 ACP? I'm trying to talk myself into it but I'm having a very hard time. |

I certainly can’t help you. My CCW is a 12+1 .40 S&W P229. I have no doubt that round for round, a .45 ACP is somewhat more powerful than a .40 S&W - but I don’t think that makes up for the loss of 4 or 5 rounds that comes with a single stack .45 (plus there’s another such loss in your spare mag). Granted, a P220 with two spare mags wouldn’t leave me uncomfortable, but if I felt I had to have a .45, I’d probably go for something with a double stack mag. |
Indeed. At the very least, you should be comparing to the P220 Carry, not the Compact. The Centurion and the Carry are both "commander" style autos, to use the 1911 terminology. (i.e., they are full-size frames with compact slides) This gives you 8+1 in the SIG. The compact sports a smaller "officers" style frame, with shorter, lower-capacity magazines to go with it. |
