My friend has a p229. he wants to refinish it with norells. He cant get the pin on the slide out. (refered to as pins 7&8 in the armorers manual). He has hit it with a punch and it wount budge at all. Hi is afraid to continue because it will start mushrooming. Please help! |

That pin is pressed in at the factory with a hydrolic press. A punch will mushroom it then the fun begins. Go to the SIG forum and they can help you some. I think I've read about using a fixture with a press to remove the pin from the stainless slide. The 229 has a stainless slide. |
| I assume you are referring to the firing pin retaining pin. You need a cup tip punch to remove this. You can buy them through Brownells ir Sigarms. One you remove it you will need to install a new one. I dont know if Sigarms uses a hydraulic press to install this pin. You certainly dont need one to remove the pin. The pins go in from right. Remove them from left to right. |
