Is it better to load a Sig mag to the max or leave one round out to easy the tension on the spring?

Load Magazine full, insert in weapon, rack one into chamber, decock with lever, remove mag, insert round, and insert mag, now you are ready to Rock & Roll

Springs ( ALL SPRINGS ) wear out thru use , compression and decompression . Load the mag and leave it . Switch out mags every 6 months , unless you shoot your carry ammo alot .

I have  a set of 8 round mags for my 220 that will not feed reliably when loaded 8 + 1. These are factory SIG (Mecgar) mags. They choke up boh of my 220's

Loaded 7 + 1 they work fine.

If you are going to carry your weapon for anything serious, test your ammo/mag/weapon combo. The factory reps and armorer school claim "hell and back" reliablity with fully loaded mags. My experience has shown otherwise

I carried a SIG P220 several years back...wanting more, I bought their follower that allowed the original designed 7 rounders to carry 8 rounds...these were originally designed at the request of Texas DPS (as I was told by SIGarms and Captain Walker at Texas DPS...there really is a Walker Texas Ranger :D)...I did not find them as relieable as the 7 round originals...I cannot speak for the reliability of the "new" 8 rounders from SIG (thick plastic bottomed mags)...

...as to leaving them loaded...when I went through the SIGarmorer course (Bank Miller and George) it was told to us that a NASA scientist (rocket scientist? :D) had done an experiment on his personally owned magazines (SIG) and left them loaded for years with no problems...I personally, unload them if they aren't to be used for a while or about every six months (or if I go on vacation) with duty gear...
