How often (round count or time) is it required to perform a recoil spring check to see if it had compressed to the "No-Go" point? And how is this done? |

Top gun, or Brownells sells factory recoil springs for whatever model you have. Wolf sells recoil springs as well, but they are not the double wound type factory type units. As a rule of thumb, just replace the recoil spring every 3K of rounds. If you don't know the round count on say a used pistol, then a spring kit from top gun for around $25 will have all new springs, and would be a bad idea to get you to a fresh beginning to start a new round count on the pistol. Again, swap out the recoil spring every 3K, and as for the rest of the springs, maybe every 15K to 20K for good measure (light primer strikes is the dead giveaway that hammer spring is cocked, and the slide catch lever catching the slide before the last round as well. Plus on say a 220, you want to pull the slide block and clean out the extractor channel about the same count since it can get packed with fouling and cause problems. The spring kits also includes the block cross pins, so it’s a smoking deal from top gun since it will have all the springs/parts needed for a clean/fresh reinstall). |
