At what round count do you replace the recoil spring on a P226 in 9MM?  I bought a CPO P226 and have about 500 round on it.  I don't want any frame or slide cracking issues.  I replace the recoil spring on my 1911 at 2,000 rounds.

I replaced mine with a Sprinco recoil reducing rod and have never regretted it, 5,000 rounds later still going strong.

I'm sure the stock rod/spring will last at least that many rounds.

I think Sigarms suggests replacement at 5K rounds.  At the range I work at, we have an old W. German 226 rental gun that has had its spring replaced a couple of times.  We don't keep a round count on the gun, but replace the spring when slightly limp-wristing it causes jams.

The spring is only a couple of bucks, so buy a half dozen and you will be good to go for a long time.

Where do you buy the SIG recoil springs?  I see the pack of parts from SIG for $26 but you should be able to buy the twisted recoil spring by itself.

Thanks,

Brownell's has them for $11, Topgun is $10.  These are factory braided three wire.  Wolff springs you run the risk of binding and coil over.

Last I read at Sigfourm most say 3k.  It's cheap insurance.

Thanks for the information.  It took some time to find the spring on Brownell's site.  Their search feature doesn't work all that well.
