I already go with the Mec Gars for most of my magazine needs, but I noticed recently that Mec Gar is upping the capacity on some magazines. They have P226 9mm magazines that hold 17 rounds and P228 mags at 15.

Does anyone know if they plan to make P226 mags in .357 SIG that hold more than 12?

No I don't. But you can retrofit the 226 17rd. mag to fit in a 229 9mm. All that is required is an adapter...

Well, thanks for the info, but what I'm actually looking for is a way to up the magazine capacity in my P226 from 12 rounds of .357 to... well, more. Since the market obviously wanted 17 rounds from a 9mm instead of 15 (and I'll look into the X-Grip to see if I can comfortably have 17 rounds out of my P228), it stands to reason that more than 12 rounds of .357 SIG is doable.

I have my hopes, anyway...

You can easily get a 17+1 P228 package without the feeling of a tumor growing out the bottom of your pistol.

1. Use a Mec-Gar P226 17RD magazine. Mec-Gar is the current manufacturer of most of the Sig magazines.

2. Install a German Sig baseplate or modify the Mec-Gar baseplate. The Mec-Gar baseplate is about .080" longer than the German baseplate. A few minutes with a bench grinder, dremel and hand file will do the trick. The adapter will cover your work.

3. Slide an X-GRIP magazine adapter over the magazine and snap it onto the baseplate.

4. Enjoy!
