i was looking in the local fun shop today. i came upon a sig 226 blackwater edition. it was a 9mm. when i took the mag out it was a 40 cal/357 mag. brand new. my question is this, is sig using one mag with a different follower or could this have been an error? the owner saitd that is the way the gun came9 40 cal magazine) |
| Some (not all) dealers take the mags that come w/ a pistol and replace them with something else. This was the case during the ban. Dealers would take pre-ban stock (with hi-cap mags) and swap the mags out for 10 rd mags. They would then sell the hi-caps for a hefty profit. If it is a NIB pistol, either the dealer swapped the mags, or Sig shipped it with the wrong ones (possible, but, unlikely). |
| I bet it holds about 12rds of 9mm. I remember during the ban people using .40 mags for nines all the time in different pistols to get around the mag limit. Once at an IDPA match, there was a guy using a USP 9 and the entire match was using .40 mags...he didn't realize it until after the match when someone pointed out he had the "wrong" mags. Some times it still works, with a bonus of a few rounds. |
| Blackwaters are supposed to come with 5 15rd 9mm mags. But in NY, I'm sure thats not the case. Use the 10rd 40 mags and get 12 of 9mm, sounds like a good idea. I've used 9mm P226 mags in .40 and .357 guns with no problems, I don't know if it will work in reverse though. It does with USP's (as pointed out above). |

I just bought a 226 in .357, and it came with one .40/357 12 round mag. I also have 9mm 226 15 round mags for my 229. The 12 round 226 40/357 mags and the 15 round 226 9mm mags appear to be the same exact size except for the more open lips on the 40/357. The 9mm round won't stay in the 40/357 mag. Mike. |
