| Is there any differences between the 228 and 229 other than the 229 has 40/357 instead of 9mm only. Looking on sig's website, the guns look to be the same size pretty much with no differences. Is it just cosmetic differences (nitron vs blued) or is there something i am missing? |

There's a thread on page 2 of this forum that talks alot about the differences between the 228 and 229. As I understand it the 228 is a little bit lighter and only available in 9mm. The 229 was designed for the .40 or .357sig and therefore has a beefed up frame and slide=slightly heavier. I beleive that they are very close if not identical cosmetically and they are about the same size. ***SIG experts feel free to correct any part of this post*** |

Do a search or go to sigforum.com and do a search there. The differences between the two have been addressed several times. Having said that.... If you are looking strictly at 9mm, get the P228. You will not find a finer compact, high capacity 9mm handgun on the market. If you are looking at .40 S&W or .357 Sig, get the P229. The P229 was designed specifically for the .40 and .357 Sig. It is overkill for a 9mm cartridge. Don't bother with the P229 in 9mm. Hope this helps... |
