SIG Sauer P220 Combat Review

Is the "Combat" model really worth the extra money?  I've had a P220 before, an old German model.  I loved the gun, but had to get rid of it, needed the money.  I'm definitely a FDE fan and I like Sig and the 220.  What are your thoughts on the P220 Combat?  Any experience vs. the standard 220 would be helpful.

I have the P226 Combat and added the SRT to it. I love the Combat model and it was worth it for me for the looks, but function wise its no better than any other P226.

FWIW, the internals on the Combat are phosphated for corrosion resistance. Not gonna get that on the 220R. Also, hard chromed barrel finished in Nitron. If that matters.

Combat also has a true M1913 Picatinny rail unlike the 220R.

So the combat won't fit a 220R holster?

I have a 220 Combat.

...........and a 220 Match Stainless Elite..........and a 220 Carry....

Yes, the 220 Combat requires you to look around a bit for holster options, but there are ones that fit.  Blade-Tech makes one.  It's not impossible.  I actually have mine as a bed side pistol, with a Surefire X300 Ultra on it....so finding a holster for THAT combo took some extra leg work, but I eventually did find one, made by wepleadthe2nd.com

I have an SRT in mine as well.  The alloy frame makes it a bit lighter to carry than an all-steel frame model, but it's still quite the shooter.  Points and operates just the same as any other SIG.

I say FO, FO hard, and FO often.

I've had a 220 Combat for a number of years and my older 220ST turned into a "safequeen" after getting it.  The Combat is a great gun and I've been very pleased with it.  It has taken some abuse and still looks good.

As far as holsters:  I have several Blade-Tech holsters made for it.  OWB, IWB and an OWB with TLR-1 light.  I also was able to have a couple of custom leather holsters made for it back when the gun first came out.  Alessi made a CQC-S for it and RGrizzle was able to make a Countryboy holster.

For a "cheaper" range holster I found the Combat fits into a standard Uncle Mikes Kydex Sig 220R belt holster.

I haven't looked around at holsters for a few years, but would guess with the popularity of the 220 and 226 Combat guns, there are more offerings out now.  When I spoke with Alessi about the holster (back in 2009) he had to locate a "blue gun" to form holster around.  RGrizzle adapted a picatinny rail cover over a standard 220R to for his holster.

As you can guess, I've got some money tied up into the holsters for the Combat, but feel they are well worth it.  If only Blade-Tech would offer an IWB with light mount option.

Blade-Tech IWB:

I've posted pics of the RGrizzle rig in the past here on Arfcom, but don't have any loaded up on Photobucket atm.
