Right now I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II, but lately ive been thinking of getting a double action instead and selling my kimber to finance it.  I have looked at glocks and sig and of course sig takes the cake, but in pics of the new 229R DAK i seemed to notice it didnt have the hammer decocker,  Do the new 229R DAK's not have the decocker or maybe they had a wrong pic?  i think a double action would be better for CCW even though i love my kimber, cuz 1911's are fun to shoot. But for PD and carry i think the sig would be better,   Thanks in advance

You know, I cant seem to find exactly "DAK" stands for. "DAO" stands for "Double Action Only" and they do not have a de-cocking lever. I believe in one of my searches for the elusive "K", I saw that only pistols with a single action function have the de-cocking lever, which only makes since.

I can only guess that the "DAK" is a a form of  double action only.  The press releases I've seen on the DAK talk about some system on the firing pin making it safer or something. If anyone knows for sure, fill us in.

The DAK is a lighter DAO than Sig's normal DAO.  The K, as I recall, is the person who designed it.  It's the initial for his last name.  A normal Sig's DA pull is around 10 lbs, the DAK is like 7, a normal SA pull for a sig is 4lbs.  There is no SA on the DAK and it has a bobbed hammer.

From Sig's site

Approx. trigger pull weight:

SA 2.0 kp, 4.4 lbs.
DA 4.5 kp, 9.92 lbs.
DAO 4.5 kp, 9.92 lbs.
New special DAO Trigger 3.0 kp, 6.61 lbs.

ETA:

The DAK is a different trigger system than the normal sig DAO.  It's not just lighter, it's different.  You cannot change a DA/SA or DAO sig to DAK.  It's supposed to be pretty smooth if you like DAO's.

Yah i just really dont like the DA pistol but i realize it would be better as a carry weapon, since with my kimber i can either carry one in the chamber which isnt that safe or if i need it, i would have to draw and rack the slide which would take precious time, Its just a no win situation for me.

Well, many thousands of guys seem to get by just fine daily with a cocked, locked 1911 style auto and have zero problems. I switch between my G32 and a 1911 or one sort or another, but all are carried with a round chambered, and they are every bit as "safe" as I am. Me...I would keep the Kimber and add to it.

On the other hand, the Sig DAK is a marvelous trigger system and deserves all the praise I can bestow on it. It's only question mark at this stage is how it will hold up...but that is really not a bug issue given Sig's reputation. I have just ordered a 229DAK in .357Sig this week, and will get a 220DAK as soon as one becomes available. Great gun!

You WILL like the DAK! Also try the H&K 2000 with the LEM trigger...very nice as well!

Let me preface this by saying I am no expert.  I don't own a Sig...yet.  I have been doing quite a bit of research and I am torn between the P228 and the P229 DAK.  Like another previously stated, I also prefer a double action only weapon for carry purposes.  I know the 1911 is "perfectly safe" carrying cocked and locked, but I am not comfortable with the idea.  Trigger weight is just too light for my personal taste for a situation where you are going to be so hyped up on adrenaline.  It is just my preference, there is no right or wrong.

I would say the photos are accurate of the DAK.  Not to be a wise ass or anything and please correct me if I am wrong, but what exactly would you "decock" on a DAO pistol.  The hammer is never held back, it follows the slide back down after ever shot.

Also, like previously stated, the K in DAK is for the man who developed the trigger.  It is a completely different system from the DAO found on the other SIGs.

Hopefully I'll be able to post some pics of my new Sig if I can ever make up my mind!!

Take care,

Cavu

We just went to the 229 DAK in .40.  The DAK is the nicest DAO trigger I have tried.  I think you should find one and try it out.

Yes i have a kimber 1911 now, but im thining of saleing it and buying a 226R or 229R but i want to find one to fire first before i spend the money on it. The one range in my area that rents guns doesnt have a new DAK to test out.  Im not a big fan of DA but i want one for carry, so until i try one and see if i like it,  i cant spend the money on one

I have not bought one yet, but I really, really, really, liked the trigger. For me shooting a pistol accurately and quickly is all about the trigger. The 229DAK was hands down the smoothest trigger I have ever felt. It feels like everything is on ball bearings. This would be an awesome gun for anyone planning to holster carry.  On the other hand, the trigger is so smooth I would not cary this gun without a holster.
