I've got a P6 with the old style feed ramp. It feeds FMJ, WWB hollow points and good old federal 9BP flawlessly.
However, this weekend I tried some Hornady Critical Duty +P and had several malfunction. Sometimes the bullet tip would hand up on the bottom of the feed ramp and other times the slide would ride over and not pick up the next round. I'm thinking the original mags springs may not getting the bullet in place quick enough, due to increased slide velocity from the +P's. Sound feasible? Also, what HP have you has luck with in your P6's with the old style feed ramp? |
| What is the date of manufacture? There is a change in feed ramp design said to be implemented around 1987 to 1989 to mimic the commercial P225 ramp, but I have never found anything official about the exact date. I have used Gold Dot 124 +P successfully in a 9/91 barrel. |

Apparently, Sig changed the P6 feedramp in 1989..
link here: --------> http://firearms.fortreg.com/?p=1351 either way, you're lucky to have a P6 that'll feed hollowpoints. It might just only like certain ones. My P6 is a 1980 manufacture date I think... or 1982. I haven't looked at the slide in a bit... and I sent it to a gunsmith to have the feedramp polished and springs changed because it choked on hollowpoints. According to the gunsmith, it'll feed hollowpoints all day long after he polished the feedramp. The issue I had after having the gunsmith work on my pistol was the slide moving faster than the magazine springs could feed ammunition... at least that's what I figure. The pistol was having FTF issues and wouldn't reliably strip the next round in the magazine... or it would suffer a nosedive... Once I put the original recoil spring back in, the problem went away. I need to find magazine springs somewhere... The hollowpoints mine feeds are the Federal in the blue box... Personal Defense jacketed hollowpoints I think. |
| It is an easy fix if you want to modify the ramp to accept any hollowpoint, as long as you have a dremel and small sanding drum. Seriously. The old style ramp is straight across at the base and the modified ramp is curved to mimick the front of the magazine well. Did it to mine and it has fed anything that caused problems before. I'll get a picture up in a bit. |

So all of the problems that you had with your P6 were due to an aftermarket recoil spring that you had put into it? And they all went away when you put the original spring back in? |
