I have a German P228 from Wideners that was used by the Swiss Police. Even though I've coated the parts of the frame slide where the finish has warn with Tetra gun grease, but I'm still seeing rust show up.
I'm thinking of having the gun refinished but I don't want to take away any of it's value and I also don't want to loose the laser engraving of "Kantonspolizei Zûrich". In other words I don't want to loose the history of the gun. What would you do? ETA: correction |

I would shoot the piss out of it!!!!!!! Enough said.
The P228 will never be a collectors item, the market right now is flooded with P228 European Police Trade Ins. It will always be desired though, especially the German made guns. Nothing balances like a P228. You better look again, the frame can't rust!! It isn't made of steel, but the slide is. I have 5 P228's, apply grease to the frame rails. especially on the top of the rail, this wears the most. If you use a good grease like MilComm you can literally stop any further wear. I wouldn't refinish it myself, but if you wanted there are plenty of quality places that can do the job. Custom Creations, CCR and Grey Guns are just a couple off the top of my head. |
